Change Default Software DirectoryIf we install any software in the Windows Operating Systems then every time a default installation directory is always a drive in which operating system installed.

In simple words, if we installed OS in drive C, then if we install any application, the default installation directory is C:/Program Files/.

So, if we want to install an application on a different path we need to enter always new path manually.

But don’t worry we have a solution to solve this matter. In this tutorial, we will show you “How We Can Change Default Software Installation Directory in Windows”.

So, Let’s start!

  1.   Open Run windows by pressing Win Key + R or by click on Start Menu button, now type “regedit” and press enter.

Open Run Windows

  1.   When Registry Editor opens, expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE by double click.

Then go to this path Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion

  1.   Now double click on this string value “ProgramFilesDir”, you will see this C:\Program Files in the value data field, you can change it with your desired custom path i.e; D:\New Softs as we mention in the image below.

Enter Your Custome Path

If required string value does not exist then you can create it by yourself, for this right click, choose New>String Value and name it ProgramFilesDir. Enter your custom path in value data field as example D:\New Softs.

  1.   Close the Registry Editor.

Note: If your OS is 64bit, may your string value with this name ProgramFilesDir(x86). But don’t worry steps are same.

And finally, you need to restart your computer to implement properly current changes. After restart your PC, if you install the new application it will select by default your custom path and you don’t need to enter manually custom path again.
